JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Senior Professional – Legal or Notarial

Grade: Senior Professional as per LA/GWU Collective Agreement for

                                        Professional & Managerial Grades Year 2025-2028

Basic Salary: €33,366

Allowances: €10, 600 & up to 15% Performance Bonus

Unit: Legal OR Contracts Directorates

Report To: Direct Superior (as designated from time to time)

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with legal or notarial contracts, ensuring deadlines are met.

- Provide guidance to staff within the Legal and Contracts Directorates.

- Support the planning and coordination of Directorates’ operations.

- Liaise with notaries and legal advisers as required.

- Stay updated on local and international developments relevant to the Authority’s

        regulatory role. 

Legal:

- Ensure the Authority’s compliance with the Lands Authority Act and related local, EU, and 

        governance requirements, acting as the main point of legal guidance.

- Direct litigation and provide legal support to the CEO and all Directorates as required.

- Proactively advise on legislation and assigned legal documents.

- Conduct legal research and provide contractual, governmental, and data-protection 

         advice as needed.

Notarial:

- Represent the Authority in the signing of contracts and draft legal documents.

- Perform notarial duties, including vetting, drafting, and tax calculations.

- Draft and publish deeds and private writings in line with CAP 55 of the Laws of Malta.

- Oversee post-publication procedures, notarial registers, and deed indexing.

- Advise on procedural and general notarial matters as required.

Team Leadership Management

- To report to the CEO and respective Chief Officer any shortcomings and suggest possible

        improvements and/or solutions.

- Promote a positive, professional and collaborative work environment.

- Achieve departmental objectives by providing leadership to the team and overseeing the 

        planning, coordination, and evaluation of departmental activities.

Quality Assurance

- Consistently delivers work to a high standard, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the

        expectations of the CEO and Chief Officer.

- Review employee’s performance and provide respective feedback to employee. 

Tasks and duties of the jobholder are not limited to the above listed and the employee may be required to assist other employees/departments and may be assigned duties within units/directorates other than other/different duties from time to time, as the need may be.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Candidates must be in possession of the following:

- In possession of a Law Degree with Warrant to practice in the Courts of Malta and Gozo,   

        and one (1) year experience working in the legal field.

OR

- In possession of a Law Degree, and, in the process of obtaining said warrant, to practice

        as an Advocate or Notary in the Courts of Malta and Gozo, and two (2) years’ experience 

        working in the legal and notarial field.

Skills

- Proficiency in both Maltese and English is required (both written and verbal). 

- Proficiency in standard business office software (Microsoft Office).

- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing environment.

- Displays strategic judgement, personal accountability, and the ability to lead, support, and

        develop others.

- Transparency, fairness and ethical conduct.
